The sunflower seeds are harvested when the back of the flower heads turn yellowish to brownish in color and the leaves begin to wilt. After harvesting, the sunflower seeds are cleaned and dried to achieve a suitable moisture content. This is followed by dehulling, in which the shells are removed from the seeds. The exposed seeds are then crushed and undergo a conditioning process that heats the seeds and optimizes their texture for oil extraction. The oil is then pressed out of the kernels at low temperatures using mechanical pressure and then subjected to a gentle refining process. The resulting oil is filtered several times in order to achieve a particularly high degree of purity, which is highly valued in the pharmaceutical sector in particular.
In Leonberg, we carry out final laboratory analyses on our refined sunflower oil to ensure that it meets our high standards of quality and purity. The oil meets European Pharmacopoeia standards and is subject to a precise control process that ensures consistently high quality. With a robust and diverse supply chain that relies on different seed suppliers and production facilities, we guarantee a reliable supply even in the event of climatic changes.
