Our sheaolein is made using a sustainable and environmentally friendly method, starting with local women from village communities in West Africa. The women collect the wild shea nuts, remove their edible green shell and then heat them to loosen the hard outer shell. This traditional activity provides the women with an above-average income, which makes a significant contribution to the financial well-being of their families.
Once the nuts have been dried, they are mechanically pressed in an oil mill using gentle heat to obtain the raw shea butter. This step is followed by fractionation of the raw shea butter using a suitable solvent such as hexane or acetone, during which the liquid fraction is obtained - the raw shea olein.
The raw shea olein is then completely refined and filtered several times to remove naturally occurring turbidity and suspended solids. Once in Germany, the liquid end product is tested in an accredited laboratory to guarantee the highest quality and purity of our refined sheaolin.
