For the production of our refined hazelnut oil, hazelnuts are harvested in California during the peak harvest season in the fall. California is characterized by its hot and dry Mediterranean climate, combined with an advanced water supply infrastructure, making it an optimal location for commercial hazelnut cultivation.

Our Caloy production unit in Modesto is the world's largest producer of hazelnut oil. By integrating all production steps from cultivation to processing, our experienced employees ensure consistently high quality to meet growing market demands. Our agricultural experts are in constant contact with the farmers to ensure that only high-quality hazelnuts are used in our oil production. In 2016, we started operating our advanced oil mill, equipped with three expeller presses from Germany, which were specially developed for the production of our nut oils. The crude oil is obtained through a gentle mechanical pressing process, whereby we do not use any additional additives.

After pressing, the oil is further processed in our specialized refinery, which was newly built in 2013 and expanded in 2017. We refine the oil at low temperatures to preserve all the important vitamins and natural plant substances in the oil. This treatment means that the hazelnut oil obtained has a longer shelf life, but is more neutral in taste and odor than cold-pressed oil. Only nut oils are processed in our refinery, which means that they cannot be mixed with other products. No other producer in the world specializes in nut oils like we do and offers a fully integrated production process that combines everything under one roof, from the raw material to pressing and refining. This enables us to offer nut oils of a significantly higher quality than those available on the market.

In addition to high product quality, delivery reliability is our top priority. With extensive storage capacities in the USA and Europe, we ensure a reliable, prompt supply at all times and everywhere - not just a promise, but a guarantee.

Quality control is seamless thanks to our 6-stage system:

  2. By our own Caloy laboratory on receipt of the hazelnuts
  3. After pressing into oil
  4. In-process controls at each individual refining step
  5. Final inspection of the oil after refining
  6. Before delivery to the customer by our officially DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 accredited Gustav Heess laboratory in Germany

Our refined hazelnut oil meets the standards of the European Pharmacopoeia and is continuously monitored for the highest quality using a special test plan.
